Cinnamon + Pepper = too spicy

After a couple of months the young rabbits behavior became quite peculiar.

“Mommy! Cinnamon is beating up Pepper! I think Pepper’s ear is bleeding…” was one proclamation.

“Cinnamon thinks she’s a boy, Mommy, because she keeps humping Pepper. Isn’t Pepper supposed to be on top?” was another.

The questions came clearly, appropriately, rapidly, and candidly. See, the kids had no qualms (or censor) with their interrogation.

“What happens if Pepper puts his penis in Cinnamon’s face? Can she get pregnant through her mouth?”

“How does the sperm get into Cinnamon’s uterus just by Pepper climbing up on her back?”

Oh boy.

As uncomfortable as conversations about sex can be with your children, talking about it 'scientifically' in the back drop of potential new bunnies allowed the conversation to flow freely. Additionally I was able to incorporate into the conversation the topics of pregnancy, safe sex, STDs, miscarriage, and rape with minimal weirdness because we were talking about THE RABBITS!! Sure, it was mentioned that these same issues with procreation can be applied to humans. But today it was all about the rabbits! Easy as pie.

After about 10 weeks of this ‘weird’ behavior (and no pregnancy), we started our investigation into the true genders of these two bunnies. Both of the bunnies had identical appearing genitalia (but we realize that young rabbits genitals are sometimes difficult to distinguish). So the family did some internet research (including Google images) and the kids shared with me (independently) which gender they thought each rabbit was. Unanimously (of those that voted, which only excluded the 3 year old) we concluded that had two male rabbits!

“Mommy, that is definitely a penis…see how when you push the sides back it sticks way out?!” Said the 8 year-old

"Yeah, see Mommy, that penis could fit inside of the vagina perfectly!" Chimed in the 5 year old.

Dios mio!

Now what? Do we go back to the feed store and ‘demand’ a refund/exchange? Which one do we ‘take back?’

We decided to just keep them both.
